Gastown is in an accelerated state of transformation these days. One component of this change
is the massive number of restaurant, cafe’s, galleries and boutiques which have popped up over
the last two+ years. Interestingly almost all of the recent proprietors are doing their utmost to respect the history, style and architecture of the neighbourhood, which is a big deal for a city with a bad habit of knocking down historically relevant buildings, only to replace them with something ubiquitous,
but I digress.
Above are two beautiful examples of new business giving a nod to the lost art of sign painting.
Athena Atelier and Rainier Provisions (scheduled to open early 2013) called on the help of Mr. Albert Nickel who has been painting signs in the neighbourhood for the past few decades.
